Hi I have a Tait 2000 radio with the full keypad on the front.I want to reset my radio back to factory settings as all the channels are in a complete mess and the radio can't scan because of it.One other thing I'd like to add is that there only seem to be 2 power RF output options in the programming software Low/HighPower setting Low = 5wattsPower setting High = 25wattsWell as a foundation License holder I am only permitted to use 10watts at maximum witch does me just fine. I'm planning on using this radio as a UHF base station so 10watts is ideal. The problem is I can only get this radio down to 5watts and by the time my RF power gets into the SWR meter and into the antenna I'm probably going to lose about a watt or so witch kinda defeats the purpose of having a base station in the first place even at 5watts.Is there an adjustment pot inside this radio to adjust the RF power? So if I were to set this radio at 25watts can I lower the output RF power down to 10watts?I'm not prepared to run this radio at 25watts for two reasons:(1) I can only use 10 watts.(2) A Tait radio running full pelt at full power, these particulate radios are prone to fail especially for long TX transmissions. So I'm a bit stuck.Could anybody help?I'm currently looking for a more suitable radio for UHF home base use preferably a another PMR like a Motorola GM model or something. From reading my license conditions & speaking with other Amateurs. Your allowed to use PMR equipment providing that they are computer programmable and you can build stuff from commercial kits. What they don't allow is foundation licensees building home brew stuff built from scratch or modifying transmitters. If I'm just going to be adjusting an RF pot, its not really modifying. On receivers there are no rules.I'm in the process of doing my Intermediate so soon none of that will matter to me. The Tait 2000 is best set at 10-15 watts due to those long transmit periods when making contacts on amateur radio. The Tait was only designed for commercial use for short transmit periods. I finally managed to sort it out.

So now the radio is nice and clean with fresh channels reprogrammed into it and all the channels are in order this time instead of them being all jumbled up like before. What a mess that was.Now I've just got to figure out how to get the Tait to scan?I've set all the channels to low power witch is about 6 watts so not to bad I'd still rather have my full 10 watts though. I'll probably have to take the radio to the RSGB club sometime and see if somebody can adjust the RF pot to do the 10 watts.

Sorry for the late post, some info on Tait2000.Programming will depend on what version of the 2000 you have. (from my memory.) The first version has 100 channels and will only program from DOS. I don't think this version supports scanning in the traditional sense because neither of my V1 2000's seem to have a scan option. The 2nd version has.many more channels, and will program from the windows programmer. It may have scan, so you probably have the 2nd version.I.think. a V1 radio CAN be upgraded to V2 firmware, but you need to take out EPROM and burn the new firmware in an EPROM programmer.
Also I think it would still only have 100 channels. This is all doable on a foundation licence, I have had many conversations with 0fcom about this issue. As long as its on a permitted frequency/power/mode and NOT homebrew, you're good to go! Also, consider the following:UK Simple Light/etc licence holders can prog their own radios, so there is no reason why M3/6's cannot do the same. The software used to be downloadable from Tait for free, but it's been a while since I had to use it. Try looking out for Auriga 2000 as well, they are the same radio and will use the same software. Hope this helps!

How many times?Programming a PMR rig is NOT modifying it.Foundation Licence holders are NOT restricted to 'type approved' equipment. It must either me CE marked, or of pre CE-marking age. Hardware modifications aren't allowed. So, for example, a reprogrammed FM1100 would be fine, but a PA4DEN one wouldn't be.
Although no one actually cares. As for programming it - if the options are 5W and 25W, and you're restricted to 10W - then you pick 5W. It's not exactly difficult.

If you're really going to cry about it, remember you're only losing a single S point on transmit - and recieve will be no different anyway.
